The tours also highlight the ancient and recent history of the island. Arranged and hosted by The Irish Tourism Group, the excursions take knitters to mills, shops, classes, and historic sites.
The tours begin in Dublin and, by going a day early, I had time to tour Trinity College and view The Book of Kells, a 9th century illuminated manuscript of the four gospels. I joined the southern tour at the Museum of Decorative Arts and History, a former British barracks that houses some excellent examples of Irish craft.
