The Undergrad Quilt

Sitting a stone’s throw from the Oshawa Shopping Centre at King Street and Stevenson Road is Oshawa’s newest full-service quilt shop: Ruby Pearl Quilts. Drop by and be instantly inspired by the colourful samples and the bright and friendly atmosphere. You’ll find the newest fabrics on the market from designers Riley Blake, Kaffe Fassett, Phillip Jacobs, Robert Kaufman, Moda and more. The shelves are filled with a wide variety of prints including vintage, retro, reproduction, children’s, batiks, flannels, and floral and plain cotton. They also carry sewing machines and notions. They offer a full spectrum of classes from beginner to advanced.
Ruby Pearl Quilts has grown out of owner Joy’s passion for the art of quilting. It’s a family business, co-owned by Joy and her brother Lanny, the on-site machine technician. She has been sewing for 45 years, and quilting for 20 years.
Joy recently designed the quilt The Undergrad through her design company Lily La Designs. The quilt’s main focal point is a maple tree set against an autumn sky.
Everything about the quilt was a personal labour of love, “I sketched the tree in my backyard. The bicycle leaning against it is a replica of one in my favourite movies, and the books reflect the subjects my daughter has studied.”
Ruby Pearl Quilts is the culmination of Joy’s love of quilting and her love of learning and sharing new ideas.
