Felting Fayetta

Felting Fayetta

Needle felting is a wonderful craft, it’s easy to do and very relaxing, it’s also a very affordable craft with the wool and tools not costing a great deal. However, it’s highly addictive.

Felting is the process of condensing wool and making it dense so that it forms together and makes a fabric, or in this case so that it condenses into a sculpture. Felt itself is an ancient textile with known examples dating back to 5000 BC. Needle felting as a craft and art form however, only started in the 1980s by Elenor and David Stanwood. They purchased a vintage industrial felting machine and discovered a new way to use the needles and created a new type of art. A felting needle pushes the wool fibers into a sculpture or picture, and with a lot of stabbing and imagination, you can make anything.

I’d like to introduce you to my needle felted doll face, Fayetta, the Felted Fairy.
