Amy’s Reading Cushion

Amy's Reading Cushion

My niece is an avid reader. She has always been a reader. One of my favourite memories were her overnight sleep over visits, when we would snuggle in a chair in my den and I would read Silverwing and Harry Potter to her. Sometimes, I would think she had fallen asleep, but if I stopped reading, she would poke me and say, “Keep on reading I’m only imagining being in the story”.

Her love of reading has continued and as she is off to college and setting up the room in her apartment, I thought the perfect send-off gift would be a reading cushion. The fabric I chose matches her grey and yellow décor (my favourite colour scheme too) and her love of birds.

I’ve made reading cushions as gifts for all ages: from the little boy next door whose cushion sports an embroidered dinosaur and his name, to an aunt in assisted living who tucks her knitting book inside the pocket
