Love Never Ends Ring Pillow

Is someone special in your life getting married? A daughter? A granddaughter? A friend? You could make their day special with the gift of this ribbon embroidered ring pillow designed by Marie Alton of Pickering, Ontario. If the wedding is just around the corner and time is short, consider doing the design as a cushion or picture to commemorate the special day.
The tiny rose buds and lily-of-the-valley surround the names of the special couple with heart “bookends” the eternal symbol of love. “I knew I wanted an oval design that included hearts when I first started thinking about this project,” Marie explains. “After that, the rest of the design filled in from there. For the writing, she prints the script or other type-style on paper and uses that as a guide. She stitches through the paper and then removes the paper when the stitching is complete.
“I come from a Ukranian background, which has a long tradition of embroidery,” Marie says. “Before I found silk ribbon embroidery, I knitted and crocheted. I used to design patterns for a yarn store in Toronto until it closed.”
In the 1990s, Marie says, she stumbled on a book about ribbon embroidery and was stunned by the images. “I read the book from cover to cover, but I couldn’t find the supplies,” she comments.
