On a beautiful weekend in April 2010, Gitta’s held their first stitching Getaway at the luxurious Waterside Inn in Port Credit, Ontario. Gitta’s Getaway, as the name implies, was a weekend of friendship, relaxation, and stitching. The stitchers, some local and some from as far away as Montreal and Ottawa, were treated to luxurious accommodations, fabulous food, and an exclusive workshop.
The weekend began with a Friday evening welcoming pajama party, an opportunity for attendees to get to know each other. They played Bingo and other games, won prizes, did some stitching, had a first look at the wonderful entries in the Project Parade, and indulged in the decadently “warm-out-of-the-oven” cookies.
On Saturday, Gitta’s daughter Kathrin held her Dragonfly Needle/Scissor Case and Fob workshop which she designed specifically for the weekend. In the afternoon they welcomed the surprise stitcher of the weekend, Charland Garvin of Charland Designs. It was like catching up with an old stitching friend, while she shared her wonderful experiences and stories of her career in the needle arts. She made that afternoon a real treat, while the Banquet Dinner that evening was a wonderful ending to a perfect day.
Attendees exchanged Random Act of Kindness gift packages at the Sunday morning brunch. They each wrapped a few items from their stitching stash which they once loved and were now willing to part with. Everyone made a brilliant effort with their gifts, and all were rewarded with a beautiful gift to take home.
The goal of Gitta’s Getaway is for everyone to enjoy a stress and chore-free weekend, relaxing and making new friends, and this was most certainly achieved. The attendees exchanged emails and made plans for the 2011 Getaway.
