The Challenge

In honour of the Royal Wedding the teams were challenged to fascinate us! When choosing her wedding dress, Kate Middleton was inspired by her favourite 1950s style icon, Grace Kelly. Each team had to choose their own style icon as their inspiration and design a garment, and accessories, their icon would wear.

Teams & Designers

Academy of Design at RCC Institute of Technology (Gillian Curry-Treco • Kat Zitnak • Kovit Ratchadasri) – inspired by Céline Dion
George Brown College (Emily Ma • Tam Nguyen • Fa Liang) – inspired by Audrey Hepburn
Georgian College (Amy Marcus • Denise Lee) – inspired by Marlene Dietrich
Seneca College (Shannon Skura • Holly Vallentyne • Victoria Noble) – inspired by Audrey Hepburn
The challenge was formally announced on the Fashion Runway on the Friday at 10:45 a.m. Each team was given $200 shopping dollars sponsored by Twiga Industries, with no outside purchases allowed. All fabrics, notions, and trims to be sourced from the more than 250 vendors on the Creativ Festival show floor and three days to complete the challenge.
All work had to be done during show hours in their on-site sewing studios or exhibitor booth throughout the show. Studios were outfitted with sewing machines supplied by Bernina of Canada, Husqvarna Viking, Janome Canada Ltd and Pfaff and professional steamers from Rowenta.
