Shorebird Hooked Mat

Shorebird Hooked Mat by Nancy Hall is an intermediate rug hooking project inspired by spring near the lake. Finished at 20″ [51cm] square, this bold design features a bright orange bird, vivid turquoise sky, spring greenery, water ripples and lively colour accents. Nancy encourages makers to be fearless with colour and to use recycled wool whenever possible. Rug hookers will practise transferring a pattern to burlap, outlining motifs, hooking with wool strips and yarn, blending several shades for movement, creating fluffy cloud texture, filling sky and water areas, pressing the hooked piece, hemming the backing and finishing the edge.
