In My Garden Hooked Cushion
Lynn Fraser-Sumler has always been fascinated with the stars and planets in the solar system since she can remember. Her dad would help her find popular constellations on family camping trips as a child. There is nothing like going out into the woods and staring up at that big beautiful night sky. This rug hooked cushion honours those family moments of being out in nature and being in awe of the night sky, and all the magic it brings. This project uses various weights of yarn and wool cuts to accomplish texture. Sewing instructions to make the cushion cover included. Finished measurements 16” x 16” [40.5 x 40.5cm]

A Rug Hooked Tile
Walks in the country and beauty at home. Berries, birds, and flowers. Such was the inspiration for much of the Arts and Crafts era design. Made by hand by skilled craftspeople, using quality materials, home décor that is both useful and beautiful. These were the ideals of the Arts and Crafts Movement. In the spirit of the Arts and Crafts movement, Gwen Dixon has hooked a tile that was inspired by her garden, using quality materials. My design is simple with gently flowing lines and asymmetry. This project uses various weights of yarn and wool cuts to accomplish texture. Finished measurements 7½” x 7½” [19 x 19cm]

Blooming Beauties Rug
This stunning rug was inspired by Lorna’s backyard gardens. Lorna was also very inspired by rug hooker Deanne Fitzpatrick and her method of hooking rugs. Lorna faithfully watches her live show every Thursday afternoon. Deanne’s painterly style of hooking is very impressive to Lorna. She checked her stash of yarn about two months before she started hooking the rug and visited her local thrift stores to purchase yarns to complement her stash. This experience added greatly to the fun we often experience when contemplating making a new rug. Ultimately, this rug was entirely hooked using yarn from thrift stores. Lorna is known for her love of bright colours which shows in most of her rugs.

My Lake View Rug
Inspired by escapes to her cottage in the Kawartha Lakes, Lynn Fraser-Sumler was inspired to create this hooked piece using exquisite colour and shading. It's an 8" x 8" piece which packs a lot of possibility for learning to create water, land, and trees, and lend a sense of movement and life to these elements.

Three Sheep
Sheep are the natural subject for hooked mats made with wool. This little design is more playful than realistic because the wooly part of the sheep is outlined in bright colours. The faces are hooked simply in solid black. Get the pattern template and more hooking tips in the instructions.

The Silk Lotus Flower
Rug hooking is typically done using wool, but many have explored the craft with dyed nylon tights. This project, Dawn Liu-Smyth explores and enhances a simple flower using Sari silk ribbon and raffia. The end result is nothing short of mesmerizing.

Hooking a Colourful Basket Topper
Sometimes the beauty of a craft is in the materials used rather than intricate design details. Hooking a basket-topper with colourful sari silk ribbon and textured yarn is a quick project that packs a beautiful punch! It can be hooked and put together in only a couple of days for that kick of instant gratification.

The Boys Primitive Hooked Rug
Using old techniques, and to give new life to old items, Michelle’s pattern is based on two Siamese cats that she shares her home with. About eighty percent of the wools in this rug are recycled from skirts, jackets, pants, and old wool blankets. The rest, mostly the reds and oranges, which were harder to find are mill, or hand dyed. There are over forty different colours and textures of wools in this rug pattern.
