Red Legs Socks
Red Legs Socks
"In this witty sock pattern, Lorraine Thompson created shaped toes to be worn on the left and right feet because the words on the soles need to be read in order. After much experimenting, it turns out you just need to decrease faster on one side than the other. She also used a band heel but with a reinforced s1,k1 pattern. This heel does not have a gusset decrease which would interrupt the colour stranding in the foot. The numbers for the heel can be adjusted. The motif on the leg is a sheep she has used time and time again on many of her knitted projects, this time she made the sheep design taller with coloured legs to represent socks. On the soles of the socks are the colour-stranded words: On the eighth day God knit socks. Includes: material list, instructions, charts for colour stranding. Skill level: Advanced

The question, ‘Is there Life on Mars’ is knitted into the sole of one sock and question marks on the other. Elongated figures of possible aliens run across the leg of the socks. Colourwork charts included. Includes: material list, instructions, charts for colour stranding. Finished size: women’s medium "

Midnight over Blue Mountain Shawl
Midnight over Blue Mountain Shawl
"This crescent-shaped shawl begins with increases like a semi-circular, half-pi shawl, which helps prevent the large hump that often happens at the back of crescent shawls. It features small eyelets in the main pattern to represent stars, while the border pattern has more closely spaced eyelets that evoke the bright Milky Way band of stars that we can see in the night sky. This border pattern stretches out into points, making for an attractive, slightly scalloped edge and easier to block out than a smooth, curved edge. Knit in Universal Yarn Wool Pop, which is silky-smooth with incredible drape, the blue-black Night Sky colourway has a lovely heathered sheen reflecting this design’s starry theme. skill level Intermediate finished measurements One size: 72” wingspan from point-to-point x 23” deep at center back [183 x 58cm]

Aurora Cowl
Aurora Cowl
"This cowl features diagonal ribbing, with different widths of ribs, which evoke the flashes of colour in the night sky created by the Northern Lights. Knit in the round, the cowl is reversible. The spiral is created with sequence knitting, with simple ribbing shifted into a diagonal rib by the addition of one extra stitch over the pattern multiple. Universal Yarn Colorburst is a self-striping yarn that makes the spiral rib dance even more, and the colourway is suitably called Aurora Borealis. Instructions for neckwarmer, snood, and necklace cowl included. finished measurements Neckwarmer 22” diameter x 8” high [56 x 20.25cm] Snood 24” diameter x 24” high [61 x 61cm] Necklace Cowl 48” diameter x 8” high [122 x 20.25cm]

Tiles and Tesserae Wrap
Tiles and Tesserae Wrap
The main body of this wrap was designed to resemble tiles set in an intricate herringbone pattern, while the eyelet pattern on each end represents the tesserae, small bits of stone or glass, used in the making of mosaic art. The golden colour of the yarn evokes the gold that was used in the most lavish of ancient Roman and Byzantine mosaics. Universal Yarn Magnolia yarn is a luxurious blend of modal and cashmere, and it has a glorious sheen and drape. Notes are provided in the pattern so that you can personalize the size of your wrap. Includes material list, knitting instructions are written and charted. Using 3 skeins of Universal Yarn Magnolia colour 102 Golden Sand. Finished measurements Wrap 18½” x 77” [47 x 195.5cm]

Soft Tiles Cushion Cover
Soft Tiles Cushion Cover
Mosaic knitting is used here to create a cushion cover that resembles richly patterned tiles. The back and front could be made to be identical, but here I have reversed the colours so that the back is a negative image of the front. The cushion cover is knit at a firm gauge to help prevent pilling over time and is slightly smaller, blocked, than the pillow form to ensure a tight fit. In the sample, the two pieces are sewn together with a blanket stitch of both colours of yarn held together, but, if you prefer, you could use an invisible seam, like the mattress stitch, and insert a zipper on one edge so that the cover could be removed for laundering. Includes material list, knitting instructions are written and charted. Using 2 balls each colour 828 Pulp and 814 Petrol Blue of Universal Yarn Deluxe DK Superwash finished measurements cushion cover pieces 15” x 15” [38 x 38cm], blocked stuffed cushion 16” x 16” [40.5 x 40.5cm]

Aran Inspired Scarf
Aran Inspired Scarf
This scarf is inspired by the intricate cable motifs of Aran fishermen’s sweaters, but it is not knit in a traditional style. Instructions for three sizes are given, and notes are provided for altering both the length and width of the piece so that you can personalize it as desired. Natural coloured yarns would be most traditional, but the piece can be made in any colour, and its cabled design would suit anyone regardless of age or gender. Leafy Vines Wrap
Leafy Vines Wrap
One’s first thoughts about gardens are often about colour, flowers, and the birds and butterflies that they attract. But gardens are also about foliage and various calming shades of green. In this design, foliage takes center stage. Vines span the length of this wrap, enhanced by a twin leaf motif along the lower edge. The yarn is Universal Yarn Bella Cash, a soft, round, fine-weight yarn with good stitch definition, and a luxurious feel thanks to the cashmere in the blend. With instructions for two widths, you can knit the design as a scarf or a wrap and personalize the length by adding or subtracting 8-row repeats. Sunflower Socks
Sunflower Socks
Hand knitted socks pattern with a sunflower running up the calf and the words Be a Flower and Stretch in the Sun knitted into each sole respectively. This is the 13th sock pattern in Lorraine Thompson’s Thoughtful Soles Series where she was inspired by one of the mindfulness magazines she admired. It had a full-page photo of a field of sunflowers with the following caption. “When you are busy, it is calming to remember that somewhere out there is a vast field of flowers just stretching in the sun.” Knitting these socks is her tribute to that bit of advice and working with such luscious yarns like Universal Yarn Bella Cash and Donnina makes it easier to be mindful. Gingham Apples Socks
Gingham Apples Socks
Inspired by the apple tree and knit from the top down, these socks are best described as a 'tree from the ground up'! The black yarn (Toe) represents the rich soil for the roots. The two shades of brown (Foot) look like the bark of the trunk with the words on the sole scratched in. The pink (Heel and Turn) is for fragrant blossoms and yellow is for bees. The red and white apples (Leg) are reminiscent of a gingham apron. Lastly, blue/green mix (Cuff) is to top off the tree with loops for leaves under the sky. Designed by Lorraine Thompson 905.885.0347

Notre Dame Crescent Shawl
Notre Dame Crescent Shawl
This shawl was inspired by the heartbreaking fire of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris in 2019. The yarn chosen for this project has the colours of stained glass, and the overall shape of the shawl is suggestive of a section of the cathedral’s famous rose window. The horseshow lace motifs are reminiscent of gothic arches, and the columns between the arches evoke the flying buttresses that are quintessential traits of gothic architecture.
