Newfoundland Wristers

Wristers like these beauties are welcome all-season wear in the wild and crazy weather of Newfoundland. Even on hot summer days, chilling fogs may suddenly sweep in from the ocean, changing life on the hiking trail from a beautiful adventure to a shocking nightmare. Always carry a pair of these in your pack. In winter wear them over a pair of driving gloves.
Many of our traditional fairisle designs favour small geometric patterns like this very old and familiar one. The palm is worked in our characteristic salt and pepper stitch for extra strength and warmth. These rhythmic stitch patterns flow from the needles with little need for weaving in. Oddments of yarn may be used and quantities are easy to estimate because colours are most often used in equal amounts on the hand. Changing gauge rather than altering the instructions produces a wide range of custom sizes in the easiest possible way. We are practical people.
