The Sampler Scarf

US$4.95

Before there were written patterns, knitters kept “stitch dictionaries” by working samplers of the different stitch patterns they were learning and using. That tradition has inspired this scarf, which features a dozen different, knit-purl stitch patterns. Easy enough for beginning knitters to complete, the frequently changing patterns help to maintain the interest of more experienced knitters. Some of the stitch patterns need additional stitches to make the pattern symmetrical; some lie flat while others pull in a little like ribbing. The different row repeats mean that not every section will be exactly the same length. Rather than working to correct these slight variations in size, they should be embraced as part of the nature of sampler knitting.
