You Are Made Wall Art
You Are Made Wall Art
Jo Gatenby continues her love affair with frameless framing in this enchanting design. Notice that the stitching isn’t centered on the frame. The moon is grounded, just rising above the horizon and the children are not stitched allowing the fabric to show through to create the figure. This is called Assisi embroidery, with a cross stitched background. To make the figures smooth, ¾ stitches are used, rather than backstitching. If you are unfamiliar with this technique, a how-to is provided. Includes instructions for frameless framing. Finished measurements 12¾” [32.5cm] square.

Tuscan Tiles Table Runner
Tuscan Tiles Table Runner
It was by serendipity that just around the time ANPTmag announced the theme for Issue 61, Jo Gatenby watched a program about the beautiful, tiles in Tuscany. This design is inspired by actual building roofs, and the bright colours are also Tuscan-inspired. However, please feel free to change the colour palette, as ex-plained in the instructions. The instructions also include diagrams and instructions to make the Algerian eye-lets, linked eyelets, and the loop start. The pattern is worked on 28ct evenweave and worked over 4 strands. Finished measurements: 7ct – 41¼”W x 34¼”H [105 x 87cm] stitched on 14ct fabric 14ct – 20½”W x 17¼”H [52 x 44 cm] stitched on 28ct fabric 16ct – 18”W x 15”H [48 x 38cm] stitched on 32ct fabric

Nautilus Cross Stitched Wall Art
Nautilus Cross Stitched Wall Art
While working on my Elemental Fractal series published in A Needle Pulling Thread magazine in Issues 55 through 58, Jo became enchanted by all the fractals in nature. A nautilus shell was one of the things she considered for the water element. She ended up using a colourful coral spiral for the fractal water design featured in Issue 56, but she loved this Nautilus one so much that she was pleased to be able to offer it for this nautical-themed issue. She used the same frameless framing option described in Issue 58, offered here for your convenience. Includes material list, chart, and DIY framing instructions Finished Measurements Design size 28ct – 8”W x 8”H [20 x 20cm]

Cross Stitch Black Rose
Cross Stitch Black Rose
This design is based on a pencil sketch Jo Gatenby did for an art class. She always thought it would make a cool cross-stitch pattern, so the theme for Issue 59 gave her a chance to try it out! If you’re not a fan of black, she suggests, of course, to choose only 6 shades of your favourite colour to stitch this beauty. Select complementary colours from palest to darkest and go for it! The Castle Nursery Pattern
The Castle Nursery
This piece is was inspired by an art project Jo's youngest daughter constructed while in university and the architecture theme for this issue. Jo’s daughter created this large castle wall full of windows, and you can see the rooms inside each window. Jo kept the project pieces long after her daughter graduated, knowing this idea would make a wonderful cross-stitch series. This isn’t a project for the faint of heart, the cross stitching is easy, the assembly will require a good mood. Full charts and step by step assembly instructions. Market Treasures
Market Treasures
Part of the charm of this design comes from the use of layers… the background is half-stitched with a single strand of floss making it very soft and faded in the background, while the tissue paper is full-stitched with a single strand of floss, so the colors are still soft… then the flowers themselves are stitched with 3 strands, to really make them stand out, with deep rich colours!
