The Smocked Needlebook, The Magical Surface Honeycomb Stitch

US$12.95

This simple smocking stitch is so much fun to explore. It’s worked from left to right, usually over a geometric patterned fabric such as gingham, tartan, or plaid, to create very interesting designs. When rows of this stitch are worked in mirror image or stacked, different effects are created. The height of the stitch can also be varied.
Try adding beads also. However, this type of smocking has no stretch, which can be an advantage or not.
Sometimes called honeycomb smocking or counterchange, this type of smocking was popular in the 1980s. This is a pattern and tutorial for making a smocked needlebook for your sewing space. The pattern includes a tutorial for a variety of smocking designs.
