Fractured Flower Trivet
Fractured Flower Trivet
This trivet design is the culmination of the last several Knit Together articles: the adaptation of the flower in Issue 57 Creative Options in Knitting, the striped I-cord from Issue 58 Edgy Knitting, and the double-knitting piece Fractured Flower Trivet that follows in this issue. The piece can be used before or after a wash to full the fabric. Includes: material list, flower chart, instructions. Double Horseshoe Wedding Shawl
Double Horseshoe Wedding Shawl
In Great Britain, and some areas of North America, a horseshoe is considered a symbol of good luck. An ornately decorated, fabric horseshoe is often given to a bride to carry down the aisle at her wedding. It has double the luck, because not only is it knitted in the shape of a horseshoe, the lace pattern in this piece is called the horseshoe pattern. The challenge for this piece was ‘bending’ the lace into a horseshoe shape. I achieved it by doubling number of stitches on a repeat at intervals around the curve. Kokimono Reading Jacket
Kokimono Reading Jacket
In keeping with our “me time” theme, this reading jacket was designed for comfort. Worked in a cotton yarn, it is “summertime cozy”. For a more wintery version, choose a nice, medium (worsted) weight wool. To accommodate today’s technology, the sleeves have been designed to be roomy enough to hold an iPod ®, MP3 player or cell phone so that you can choose to have your phone handy or to add music while you read. Time for Me Lapghan
Time for Me Lapghan
A jacket kit in deep ocean blues inspired the original version of this lapghan. Worked in traditional Shetland pattern called Old Shale, adapting the 12-row repeat to an 11 row repeat makes the robe reversible. This incarnation of the same pattern uses a summery cotton/acrylic bouclé with a soft cream mohair blend to make the frothy crests to the ‘waves’. This pattern really is easy enough for a beginner. Victorian Sewing Pouch
Victorian Sewing Pouch
In our sewing pouch we incorporated the edelweiss to represent Uschi’s German heritage. The tiny white flower is a symbol of courage and purity. The ladybug is for Kerry’s Irish ancestors, symbolizing protection and good fortune. The lily of the valley is a symbol of sweetness and happiness and the pearl represents wisdom, women, and faith. Rice Cakes Jacket
Rice Cakes Jacket
The name for this jacket is derived from the rice stitch used for the body. Seed stitch makes a good complement for the bands, which are worked as the body is made using intarsia technique. The bands can be made in the same yarn as the body, but contrasting bands make good use of the current colour blocking trend. Top-down knitting makes for minimal sewing and the Chanel-styling with raglan sleeves is timeless. Swirling Cloth
Swirling Cloth
This swirling cloth looks pretty draped over a towel rail. The edging is worked sideways to the centre swirl. It begins with a provisional cast on, takes in one stitch from the centre section on every second row, then is closed with a garter stitch graft to make a nearly invisible finish. Bendy Bootees – Bootees
Bendy Bootees – Bootees with Knees
These bootees are an adaptation of an old pattern for “bootees with knees” – bootees that come up over a baby’s knees. Originally they were made to protect baby from drafts caused by the nightgowns babies used to wear. These days, the moms that have received them report that they protect little knees when the little ones take to crawling.
