Lessons in Peyote
This is Part 1 of a series by Diane Mugford on lessons on Peyote. Part 1 is a lesson on flat, even-count peyote stitch. In this first part, Diane explains lessons in beading basics, a little history, and offers a napkin ring, easily transformed into a bracelet, as project. Full instructions and helpful diagrams. The rest of this series (Parts 2 - 4) will look at tubular/uneven-count, tubular/even-count, and flat/uneven-count with their respective projects.

Market Treasures
Part of the charm of this design comes from the use of layers… the background is half-stitched with a single strand of floss making it very soft and faded in the background, while the tissue paper is full-stitched with a single strand of floss, so the colors are still soft… then the flowers themselves are stitched with 3 strands, to really make them stand out, with deep rich colours!

Hramavik the Thunder Spirit
My Hramavik - Thunder Spirit design is the result of three sources of inspiration: a Belarusan motif pattern, the Trianglepoint stitch technique and the colour palette proposed. This can make an extraordinary placemat and by repeating the design, can also be adapted into a runner. Instructions and charts included.

Repurposed Pottery Pin Cushions
These pincushions are based on a long ago summer camp craft project. Back then, we used empty frozen juice cans.
I found these pottery pieces on a trip to a local thrift store for less than $1. You can use cups and saucers too. Just glue the cup to the saucer with some seriously strong glue. The saucer can corral stray buttons, a bobbin or two, or provide a resting place for scissors.
Create these Re-purposed Pottery Pincushions for yourself, a few of your stitching pals, or for sale at a fundraising bazaar.

Three Sheep
Sheep are the natural subject for hooked mats made with wool. This little design is more playful than realistic because the wooly part of the sheep is outlined in bright colours. The faces are hooked simply in solid black. Get the pattern template and more hooking tips in the instructions.

Either way, you’ll love the way you feel after your bath. Why not make a few extra? They’re quick and easy to make and, paired with fragrant soaps, they’ll be a welcome gift set for friends, family members, or your favourite hostess.

Springtime Legs
In the spring, everyone, Canadians especially, quickly don their capris and shorts. But the weather can still be cool. Knee highs allow us to take full advantage of the sun, and still protect against that chill.
The side lace panels remind me of tulips, the perfect springtime flower. The ribbing was added front and back to ensure a snug fitting leg, making these perfect for hiking and strolling in the springtime sunshine. Charts.
