B’Ann Finlay has been knitting as long as she can remember. Her mother, a spinner and weaver and artist of many mediums, taught her to knit at a very young age to keep her busy and out of her paints.
B’Ann is a graduate of the Sheridan College Fashion Technique and Design program with an elective in Knit Design. She has worked with the Alfred Sung design house and the costume department of The National Ballet of Canada, and she has also done custom design work. Her career was sidelined when her first child was born with cancer. Many hours in the hospital followed, and knitting was the one thing that helped her cope. The result was a little red cardigan, just a cheery little sweater for her son to wear in her favorite cotton yarn. Many people started asking for the pattern so she decided to put it into print with her son on the cover. Baby Checks was her first pattern and with Jason adorning the cover it made it that much more special. B’Ann now has two healthy and happy children and they are continuous inspirations for new designs.
