Blossom Branches Socks
Blossom Branches Socks
This branching pattern incorporates tiny bunches of eyelets to give the impression of flowers. The colour is called raspberry but it makes Fiona think of the darker wine-like pink found in the centres of cherry blossom blooms. When choosing shoes she always pick one up and hold it to see how it will look to me when I’m wearing it. So I applied this notion to this sock design. The pattern changes at the ankle so that the branch effect can be seen not only by an admirer but also by the wearer. Designed by Fiona Ellis www.fionaellisonline.com

Hidden Secrets at St. Peter’s Abbey
Hidden Secrets at St. Peter’s Abbey
When Hidden Secrets at St. Peter’s Abbey was on display, the first thing viewers notice is the effect of the stained glass. It actually looks like there is sunshine from behind the window. But on closer inspection, they noticed the hidden objects. What’s that? Yes, there are 6 corsets, 6 panties and 12 bras hidden in the stained glass design. Some viewers have even seen swimsuits! But the optical illusions have all been created from clever cutting of the challenge fabric. Designed by Beverly Johnson www.bramakerssupply.com www.facebook.com/pages/Bra-makers-Supply

The Boys Primitive Hooked Rug
The Boys Primitive Hooked Rug
Using old techniques, and to give new life to old items, Michelle’s pattern is based on two Siamese cats that she shares her home with. About eighty percent of the wools in this rug are recycled from skirts, jackets, pants, and old wool blankets. The rest, mostly the reds and oranges, which were harder to find are mill, or hand dyed. There are over forty different colours and textures of wools in this rug pattern. Designed by Michelle Miller [email protected]

Fan Vaulting Beret
Fan Vaulting Beret
This pattern is inspired by the wonderful, fan-vaulted ceilings found in many cathedrals. The ceiling at Bath Abbey inspired Denise to knit the first of a series of berets based on the fanned-out ribs and arches. This is the design for the fourth beret. The hat starts with a lengthwise band knitted as i-cord. Stitches are then picked up along the band, then increased sharply, to start the twisted rib pattern. Decreases are hidden in the pattern to form the crown of the beret, which ends with the traditional tab. Designed by Denise Powell [email protected] Ravelry: DoctorKnit

Seashell Lace Socks
Seashell Lace Socks
To accommodate the stitch pattern, Kate has done something rather unorthodox. Most sock patterns have the heel worked on half the total sock stitches – I haven’t done that here. This allows me to keep the pattern centered and running neatly down into the foot, with a purl stitch on either side for balance. You can’t tell I’ve ‘cheated’ in the final result – it fits just as well, and looks even better! Designed by Kate Atherley [email protected]

Flora the Crazy Quilt Bear
Flora the Crazy Quilt Bear
Flora is made of 22 individual pieces. Each pattern piece was traced onto white cotton, and then pieced with a selection of velvet, silk, satin, brocade, even some fabric from recycled ties. In fact, most of the fabric, as well as the lace and appliqués are recycled from thrift store purchases of five fashion styles as well as a few wedding gowns. After piecing the crazy patchwork, each bear pattern piece was hand basted around the seam line to mark the limits of the embroidery. It took 3½ months of stitching lace onto seams, adding lace appliqués, embroidering, and beading seams. Most of the lace and appliqués are also embroidered and beaded.
