Personally Yours Wallhanging

I am often asked how long I have been sewing and the answer is simple – over 50 years. My earliest memories of sewing take me back to my mother, how she sewed, altered and mended clothes for her 7 children. Let’s not forget the other chores such as washing in a ringer washer at the kitchen sink, all the while keeping all of us looking like a million dollars. At an early age I received a full-figure 20″ teen doll. With my mother’s guidance, I created a full wardrobe for her, including skirts, vests, blouses, stretch stockings, party dress, coat, and a tutu. To this day I have that doll tucked away, to hand down to my first grandchild Sydney, born in September 2011. My sewing days followed me from Cape Breton to Toronto, from dressmaking, weddings, crafts, dance costumes, teaching, and quilting. Along with those tasks, I am also designing whimsical quilt patterns with my business partner and friend, Mary Eeg of Harebrained Happenings. When Twisted Stitchers Quilt Guild of Ajax, Ontario, offered a challenge to do a self-portrait I was inspired. Thinking the challenge was to create a caricature of one’s face, I designed the face in Personally Yours.
