Thank you for visiting my site!!
This is the online companion to my quarterly magazine A Needle Pulling Thread...the only CANADIAN magazine about CANADIAN needle and fibre arts from coast to coast. I officially launched the magazine with the Premiere Festive 2005 issue in October 2005, and since then I've heard SO MANY times that it's about time we had a Canadian needle arts publication.
Since our launch we've published 11 quarterly issues. Each issue profiles 10 to 12 needle art designers from across Canada, each of whom provides a project with instructions for readers to make for the season, as well as personal stories and tips that reveal the inspiration and passion driving their work. Each issue also profiles a shop and a guild from across Canada, each of which also provides a project for the reader together with information on how they provide service to their customers/members and communities.
The projects presented in the magazine include cross-stitch, quilting, beading, knitting, rug-hooking, crochet, fibre art, creative sewing, smocking, embroidery, hardanger, weaving, and much more. The project level varies between beginner and advanced intermediate, and each one provides creative elements that can be applied across the various needle and fibre art forms. There's certainly something for everyone!
The size of the magazine has grown from 76 pages in the Festive 2005 issue to 116 pages in the current Summer 2008 issue. It is printed in full colour with vibrant high-resolution photography on high-quality paper, all in an elegantly bound 9" by 10.875" perfect-bound format. We get as much feedback on the quality of the magazine itself as we do about the projects!
Our list of subscribers continues to grow daily from all places across the country - from the Yukon to Newfoundland - and from the USA and internationally as well! We're also being distributed in more stores across Canada and the USA with each issue. Read some of the emails and letters we've been receiving from readers at the bottom of this page.

NEW Summer 2008 Issue!!
Our new Summer 2008 issue is here!! It was shipped out to all our subscribers and retailers in Canada and the USA over the past 2 weeks. Retailers include Chapters/Indigo, Michaels, and select needlework shops across Canada...and in the USA it's available at Barnes&Noble, Books-a-Million, Borders, and select needlework shops.
The Summer 2008 issue is nothing short of a candy shop for stitchers! We’ve filled our 116 splendid pages with lots of beautiful and inspiring works of textile and needle arts. As always, we have at least one project and brilliant featured designer from every needlework category and some very special features. First we catalogued all the beautiful quilt works entries from the Grand National 2008; this alone is inspiring and contemplative! Then we invited Joe Lewis, a fibre artist himself, to offer his opinion on needlework as art.
We continue two series in this issue, Dyan Allaire’s Cross Stitch Fairies and Dale Edwards’ embroidered cardholder series. A third series has commenced in this issue with Susan J. Jensen’s trio of quilted and appliquéd pillow tops. Another series is the very interesting tour of the Keillor House in New Brunswick (under A Stitch In Time). Sheila Horsman, an avid stitcher herself describes the stitched items in this 18th century house. Although there is more to visit in the Fall and Festive issues, there will be an exciting stitching project encompassing different varieties of needlework for our readers in the Festive issue, which will complete the series.
Joanne Gatenby is one of our regular contributors, and she is back with a handy cross stitched wine bag to show up with at BBQ! Gotta make it! Lise Flyman is another on of our regular contributors with this very smart Lighten Up project - now that’s having fun with beads!
For our subscribers we've also included additional content and patterns on our web site, as indicated by the 8
symbol in the magazine. Just click on the Web Edition tab above and enter your personal Username and Password to access this content. This is only available to subscribers. New additions for the Summer are Joanne Gatenby’s elegant Pin Cusion, Lise Flyman’s versatile Beaded Flowers, and Joan and Debbie Bouwmeester's embroidered and wool appliqué variations on their Cornflower pattern.
What more can I say? You’re always sure to find inspiration, creativity, tips and tricks, the opportunity to learn about our wonderful designers and shops and of course, pages filled with our enticing photography. This is summer, enjoy it in our company when you’re not stitching!

"Everything has pretty well been said about your magazine in the Reader Feedback. I just love it, too. I particularly enjoyed the remarks: "It's an absolutely beautiful publication. Even if I don't make anything highlighted, it's been an absolute pleasure to read. We have nothing like this in the United States." High praise indeed as most of our magazines come from the States. You should be proud! Thanks again for such a lovely magazine!"
